Our Story

Khadija started making candles after picking up a new hobby when John bought her an at-home candle-making kit. Being a naturally creative person, it was right up her street.

She loved the process from start to finish, but when the candles were finally done, the scent just wasn’t right. It was disappointing! (In her words, “it stunk!”) Still, she pushed on, thinking she’d give it another go. She did some research, bought better materials, and this time made a small handful of candles in a single scent: Myrrh and Tonka.

That scent turned out to be the one that’s loved most - and our very first. Honestly, if that second batch hadn’t worked out, we probably would’ve moved on to the next hobby.

So there she was, a handful of candles deep… then what?

She gave most away to friends and family and decided to go again and experiment with new scents.

Khadija’s friends were so excited about the candles, the scents, the creativity - that they kept asking how she made them. She thought it would be lovely to share that experience, so she started inviting them over to make candles together.

That’s when the idea hit her: why wasn’t anyone in the area doing this as a workshop? People were clearly interested. After sharing the idea with a friend, she was asked to host a session for a private party - and just like that, the very first workshop was born.

About a year on, Khadija and John decided it was time for a new adventure. They packed up their lives and moved across the world to Sydney, Australia. A few years passed without any candle-making going on.

Then came a trip to New Zealand.

While in Queenstown, they stumbled across a chandler (a candle maker) with her own shop. Not only that, her candles were stocked in nearly every gift shop they visited. Eventually, they found her store and went in, completely in awe. She shared her story, and they left feeling inspired and motivated.

The ideas started flowing. That’s when John decided he wanted in - but with his own take on scents.

When they returned to England, while figuring out life in general, they thought, why not add another spinning plate? (If you know them, you know they thrive on this kind of energy.)

After a lot of testing, sampling, failures, and everything else in between… they finally mastered their perfect formula.
