Our Story

We met in 2016 in Knutsford. John was trying to sell electric cars and Khadija trying to keep a gym functioning. We lost touch for a while after going on different journeys but eventually found ourselves back in contact. We then began our own adventures together and one thing has always remained constant between us- our love for scent and candles! 

John leans towards those earth scents such as sandalwood, cedarwood, vanilla and coffee. Khadija meanwhile drawn to more exotic notes such as Oud, Ylang and Bergamot. Many memories formed with a candle burning somewhere near us. John has a guilty pleasure of watching a show on his ipad in the bath with a candle lit. 

We have explored our way through Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand the last couple of years. On several occasions we have been inspired by people producing and creating.  Especially a lady from Arrowtown in NZ that had started her candle making in Grimsby! 

Khadija started Blow Candles in 2021 from her family home. Blow originally focussed on candle workshops with friends and family with the odd glass of bubbly. The original candles were sold and sadly the operations ceased while we explored parts of the world together. 

On our way home we promised each other that we will start again. This time, Khadija focussing on a range that comes from her taste and likewise John with a more masculine lineup. 

Even if we end up with a room filled with stock that doesn’t sell at least we are creating! 

Thats one lesson that has been learnt along the way- always stay creative.
